Administrative/Biographical History
Dr. Paul Reiss was inaugurated as president of the Saint Michael’s Sept 29 1985. He was educated at Holy Cross, Fordham and Harvard. Reiss worked at Marquette University and later at Fordham, where he served on the faculty and later as dean and vice president. President Reiss led the College through 11 years of increased enrollment, expanded curricular offerings, institutionalization of continuing education and graduate offerings in the form of the Prével School, and a major fundraising campaign that included a new library addition, a recreation center, new classroom buildings, and renovations to many other buildings on campus. He also encouraged the College to build a house on campus for the president, a house officially known as the Reiss House (although it is more often referred to as the President’s house.) He was almost successful in divesting the College of its North Campus properties at Fort Ethan Allen, but the controversial process was never completed. He announced his resignation in 1995, and since leaving office devoted much of his energy to running a summer camp for disadvantaged youth in Lake Placid, NY.
