Scope and Contents of the Materials
Construction began on Cheray Hall in 1948 and it was dedicated May 1949. It was named for SMC founder Rev. Louis Martin Cheray, who died just before the dedication. The building was conceived as Science Hall and was often known as such. Cheray was the first building erected after World War II, although this distinction did not last long. It was designed by Freeman French and Freeman. It was significantly renovated in 1994, when it was updated and fully integrated with St Edmunds Hall. In 2002 minor renovations resulted in the addition of a snack bar known as Cafe Cheray. The series consists of materials related to both the original building and subsequent renovations. Financial information, blueprints, and other design information are represented.
