Scope and Contents of the Materials

Through the years the college has purchased properties adjacent to the college along Route 15, or College Parkway, as the road is also known. The houses were used in a variety of different ways by the college at different times. Most housed students at one time or another; others housed faculty or staff at different times. Many were torn down as they reached a state of disrepair or as the college needed the space. The series consists of basic fact sheets related to the properties, along with some mortgage and property transfer information. 12, 14 built in 1925, purchased in May 1984. 26 This property was transferred to the college in 1955 by the Bousquet family. The college rented it to Prof. Henry Fairbanks for many years. Students lived in it as the Aquinas or philosophy house for a few years. It later became the Women’s Center. 40 Property purchased in 1924, then remodeled in 1948 to house the athletic director. It was demolished in 1969. 76 Property purchased July 19 1982. 84, 86 Property was purchased 1967 and formerly known as the Francis Property. It housed both students and SSE members in formation. 90 Property was purchased April 8 1977 92 Property was purchased in 1965. 162 Formerly the Handy Property, it had been a store that was later turned into apartments. The College purchased the property in 1965. Architectural Assessment In 2002, the college engaged Donald Hamlin Consulting Engineers to perform and Architectural Assessment of College Parkway Properties that were slated for demolition. The Assessment included photographs and an architectural assessment of numbers 76, 80, 84, 88, 90, and 92 College Parkway and numbers 4, 8, and 10 Johnson Avenue. Coach’s House 1924- Located on Route 15, this was purchased on Feb 21, 1924, along with several acres of land. This home was purchased by the college, along with land and outbuildings, for the sum of $2200.00. Beginning in 1949, Doc Jacobs lived in the house. It was also used as a janitors’ home and a rental property. For more information see Silver Jubilee 1904-1929.. Fanny Allen Property Property owned by the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph and Fanny Allen hospital adjacent to the College property. The college wished to own this land for future development. Nolin Property (407-411 East Allen St.) McHugo Property (399 East Allen St.) Property transferred in 1940.
