Administrative/Biographical History
SSE, Inc. was founded on 3 March 1921, under the laws of the State of Vermont, as a non-profit charitable corporation. Originally, SSE, Inc. handled the temporal affairs of the American Province of the SSE and was intended to succeed ‘St. Michael’s Institute’, an earlier Vermont corporation that had been founded in 1903. In 1930, SSE, Inc. assumed its current role as the civil law instrumentality of the Society’s entire administration, both in the U.S. and abroad. SSE, Inc. is run by a board of trustees who exercise a fiduciary responsibility for the corporation and elect its officers. Since 1930 the board and the corporation have been headed by the current Edmundite Superior General. His general councillors are also ex-officio members of the Board. The secretary and treasurer of SSE, Inc no longer need be members of the SSE.
