Administrative/Biographical History
Fr. Armand Prével was ordained in 1871, following a novitiate at Pontigny. He was assigned to Mont-Saint-Michel and served as an instructor at both Mont-Saint-Michel and the College De l’Immaculee Conception in Laval. In 1893, he founded and was first Superior of St-Michel de Château-Gontier. In 1895, Fr. Laproste sent him to America where he assisted Fr. Aubin in setting up the Swanton foundation. He then returned to France. After expulsion from France under the Laws of Association, Prével begins the work of founding St. Michael’s School (the former école apostolique) in Hitchin, England. He then returned to America where he was instrumental in the first years of the newly formed Saint Michael’s College at Winooski Park. He served as Superior of the Vermont House until elected Superior General in 1907. His term of office was marked by a growth in the Society and creation of the new Constitutions of the Society, approved in May 1911. He died December 9, 1912.
