The Education Technology Committee began as the Academic Technology Committee in 1993.  It was formed in response to the rise in availability of affordable technology.  It was intended to represent different areas of the college in its membership, and therefore compensate for the different technological needs in different areas, such as teaching, learning, and research.  In the 1995-96 academic year it acted as an ad hoc administrative committee with faculty representation.  In 1996-97, it became the Educational Technology Committee after an evaluation of purpose.  Its purpose is to review the technology available for use in education.  Their mission statement states “the committee shall seek to establish a philosophy of how it will promote, coordinate, and assist faculty efforts to explore and use technologies in teaching and research.”  They work to make educational technology available and accessible on campus.  They also sponsor gatherings, seminars, and lectures for faculty and students about technology in the teaching environment.  This committee is one of the Faculty Standing Committees
