Collection Historical Note
Joanne Rathgeb was a popular long time member of the SMC Theatre Faculty. Along with her husband Don, she also ran the SMC Playhouse for many years. After she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, she spent a great deal of time and energy on raising awareness of the disease, speaking in many different venues, and organizing memorials of cancer victims. Upon her death in 1994, Saint Michael’s continued her work in this venue through a biennial celebration of “Joanne Rathgeb Day.” This series is the record of the committee created to administer the celebration. The college decided that the 2004 event would be the last.
