Administrative/Biographical History
Fr. Galligan’s second term as Superior General marked the beginning of major changes in the society. New apostolates were added in England and in Quebec, and apostolates in the South began to transform because of integration. With the drafting of new constitutions, some houses were changed into regions. Among the more interesting occurrences of the term, in 1971 Fr. Galligan asked members of the Society for a vote of confidence in his administration. Also of importance at the time, Fr. Galligan and his General Council agreed to participate in the US Social Security program, a decision that had great impact on the Society.
