Title: Superior General Rev. Joseph McLaughlin, 1998-1990

Fr. Joseph McLaughlin, a native of Quincy, MA, and a Saint Michael’s College alumnus, became Superior General after serving as Treasurer General.  McLaughlin’s term of office was marked by major consolidation within the society.  During his term, the apostolates in England and Quebec, both of which had existed for over 50 years, ended, and personnel transferred to America.     The subgroup includes correspondence, subject files, and transcripts of some talks given by McLaughlin.  The bulk of this subgroup is correspondence, which is arranged alphabetically by correspondent/office.  The series also includes correspondence from the South, which is further subdivided by correspondent/office.  Correspondence included in the South sub-series is that which accumulated in the Superior General’s Office.  Most originated in the South, although copies of outgoing mail are sometimes included.  Correspondence with other local administrations is located with the Local Administration record group.  Much of the correspondence related to consolidation is filed with the Local Administration files.
