The Society of Saint Edmund has had an association with French speaking Canada since the 19th century, but it was until 1938 that the Society established its first mission in Quebec. Fr. Cleo Forcier became the first priest in Greenfield Park at St. Anastase Parish, a bilingual parish. In 1962 the diocese established a separate English parish, St. Mary’s. Both it and St. Anastase remained under the administration of the SSE until 1989, when the Edmundites withdrew from Canada.
The Apostolate included a number of sites and managed many activities through the years. In addition to the Greenfield Park parishes, Edmundites also worked in Brossard, Rosemere and Chambly. They taught at schools, and Fr. Peter Brown ran a successful program for at risk boys. Beginning in 1972, the House organized a corporation, entitled Society of Saint Edmund of Quebec, Inc.
